Digital Ad Specifications

We are Macintosh-based: Accepted file formats include PDF, QuarkXPress, Illustrator, Photoshop, EPS, TIFF, 300 dpi or higher at 100%. Provide final document laser proof of ad at 100% with crop marks and separations. A color proof must be submitted with all color ads. For full-page ads, please build page according to the final magazine trim size of 8 x 10-7/8, keep live matter within 7 x 10-3/8, and extend all bleeds at least 1/4" beyond trim. For 2-page spreads, please build file with two pages side-by-side. All fonts, including those used within EPS graphics, must be supplied (both screen and printer). If supplying Illustrator files, convert all fonts used to Outline. Use only Type 1 Postscript fonts (preferably Adobe). TrueType fonts are not supported and a similar font will be substituted. Do not apply style attributes to basic fonts. A directory of the electronic files must be supplied with the disk(s). Art and images must be in EPS, TIFF or PDF format. TIFF images should be placed at 100% size. All art and images must be converted to grayscale (b&w) or CMYK (no RGB or Index color). Do not send low-resolution art or images. Resolution of bitmapped image files must be 300 dpi for highest quality output. Graphic files with smaller resolutions (such as 72 dpi, a typical Internet resolution) may appear fuzzy or pixelated when printed. Supported media include: Floppy disk, ZIP (100 MB), CD-ROM and DVD. Please label all media with advertiser/agency name, file name, issue date, publication, contact person and phone number. Unless requested, electronic files will not be returned. Any special instructions must be clearly stated.

If digital ad files deviate in any way from the above guidelines, we cannot guarantee accurate reproduction. Please contact the advertising department if you have questions regarding file compatibility.
