July 25 to July 26: Tech Institute

The National Federation of Paralegal Associations will hold its second annual technology conference at the Doubletree Hotel in Aurora, Co. The theme of this year’s event is “Real World Tools for the Virtual World” and will focus on real-world applications of technology with education sessions such as “Multimedia in the Field of Law,” “Hot Technology: How Paralegals Use It to Add Value to Depositions,” “Structured Data — The Sleeping Giant of ESI” and “Eliminating the Fear of E-Discovery.” For more information, visit www.nfpa.org.

 

July 30 to Aug. 2: 33rd Annual Convention

The National Association of Legal Assistants will host its 33rd Annual Convention and Educational Workshops at the Renaissance Oklahoma City Convention Center in Oklahoma City. Educational tracks in the areas of health care, litigation and technology will be offered in addition to Saturday sessions on case management survival, communication, and ethics and technology. July 22 and Aug. 23: Summer Seminars

In July, the San Diego Paralegal Association will host its monthly seminar from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the San Diego County Bar Association in San Diego. Stephen J. Mancini, Esq., will speak about probate and estate planning. The cost is $30 for members and $35 for nonmembers, and includes dinner and one hour of general mandatory continuing legal education  credit. In August, the association presents “Trial Prep 101 Seminar” from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Paulson Reporting & Litigation Services in San Diego. The cost is $75 for members and $90 for nonmembers, and includes a continental breakfast, a barbeque lunch and four hours of general MCLE credit. Aug. 5: Construction Defect Litigation

July 18 to July 19: Annual Seminar

The Smoky Mountain Paralegal Association will hold its annual seminar “Core Essentials for the Successful Paralegal” at the Carnegie Hotel & Spa in Johnson City, Tenn. Sessions will focus on ways to avoid, reduce and eliminate stress, as well as education topics such as “Blogging for Evidence,” “Billing Techniques” and “How to Avoid Burnout.” The event also will include a variety of vendors, a fashion show with professional attire tips, games, door prizes, a beach-themed social gathering and a Hawaiian buffet. July 24: Technology Section Meeting

Aug. 13: Administrative Law

Sept. 17 to Sept. 19: Advanced Paralegal Seminar

The Paralegal Division of the State Bar of Texas will hold its 10th annual Texas Advanced Paralegal Seminar at the OMNI San Antonio Hotel in San Antonio, Texas. The theme of this year’s event is “Celebrating Paralegals Across the Lone Star State” and will include up to 14 hours of continuing legal education credit, networking, three socials and entertainment. Some of the session topics offered will be “Ten Nerdy Things You Need to Know About E-Discovery,” “Quality Depositions from Start to Finish,” Criminal Issues in Employment Law,” Unique Child Support Issues & Remedies,” “How to Try an IP Case Economically” and “Welcome to the Cyber Jungle; Tricks of the Cyberlaw Trade.” A $1,500 grand prize also will be given away. For a 3-day registration, the cost is $205 for members and $295 for nonmembers, and includes an unlimited number of CLE sessions, a CD-ROM containing speaker materials and the Friday luncheon. For a 1-day registration, the cost is $99 for members and $189 for nonmembers and includes five CLE sessions and a CD-ROM of seminar materials. July 15 and Aug. 6: Evening CLE Seminars

The National Capital Area Paralegal Association will hold two summer seminars at 5:45 p.m. In July, Attorney Deborah E. Bouchoux will speak on the topic “Litigation Life Cycle: Introduction to Litigation” at Dickstein Shapiro in Washington, D.C. In August, Bouchoux will offer a cite checking refresher course at McDermott Will & Emery in Washington, D.C., focusing on citation form, punctuation, an introduction to The Bluebook (including changes in the 18th edition), and other tips and strategies. The cost for each seminar is $70 for members and $90 for nonmembers, and includes dinner and three hours of NFPA-approved CLE credit. July 22: Dinner Meeting

The Richmond Paralegal Association will hold a dinner meeting from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at SunTrust Bank in Richmond, Va. August: Back-to-School Supply Drive

The Fairfax Bar Association Paralegal Section will hold its annual Back-to-School Supply Drive in August. Monetary donations will be accepted to purchase school supplies and backpacks for children at the Mondloch House in Alexandria, Va., that conform to mandatory supplies lists provided by the childrens’ schools.
