2008 Rookie of the Year Award Criteria

  • One winner will be chosen by our Editorial Advisory Board and will receive a $500 check, an award plaque and a complimentary 1-year subscription to LAT, and will be featured in the November/December 2008 issue.

  • All nominees must have between one and three years experience as a paralegal/legal assistant under the supervision of an attorney.

  • All nominees must also have an associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies.  If the associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree is not in paralegal studies, the nominee must also hold a paralegal certificate from an accredited institution.

  • No Self Nominations.  All nominees must be nominated by another person.

  • Multiple nominations are strongly encouraged; however, at least one nomination must be from the nominee’s direct supervisor, paralegal manager or supervising attorney. Additional nominations are suggested from attorneys, educators, paralegal association members, co-workers, clients or any organization. A different person must complete each nomination, with an accompanying statement per the requirements below.

  • Regular contributors to LAT, including columnists, writers and advisory board members, and previous Rookie of the Year award winners are ineligible for nomination.

  • The nominator of the individual who is selected as the 2008 Rookie of the Year also will receive $100. (In the event that multiple people nominate the winner, their names will be entered in a drawing and one nominator will be selected for the $100 prize.)

  • All nominators must submit a statement on the nomination form providing information and specifics on the nominee’s work and professional contributions.  Examples should be included describing how this paralegal has distinguished himself or herself from other new paralegals by taking on advanced assignments or tasks, solving difficult or unusual problems, or rising to unique challenges both on the job and within the paralegal community.

  • DEADLINE FOR NOMINATIONS:  July 14, 2008
